Hardline Maoist group holds strike in Nepal

Cadres of a hardline Maoist group today held a nationwide strike in Nepal demanding rights for the landless settlers, disrupting normal life.
The general strike called by hardliner Netra Bikram Chand-led Maoist affected public transport services in the city as a large number of buses remained off the road.
The agitators also torched vehicles in Kathmandu and other areas. In Chitwan, a truck laden with medicines was set on fire.
Markets remained partially closed in Kathmandu.
Police arrested 70 Maoist activists from various parts of the city for enforcing the strike.
Security was tightened in the capital in view of the strike.
