Hareendran explores on canvas urbanisation, politics

With varied themes ranging from inhuman harnessing of ecosystem and global politics, award- winning artist Hareendran Chalad's painting exhibition was inaugurated here today.
Titled 'Fifth Phase', the paintings depict the Kerala artist's concern over the rampant urbanisation and cultural fall out of globalisation.
"These issues of nature, ecosystem and how we are destructing it come naturally to me. All my paintings depict some form of such pressing issues which I try to express through my work," Chalad says.
The exhibition, being held at the Jehangir Art Gallery, was inaugurated by its secretary KG Menon in presence of the artist as well as art critic Mohanraj.
Chalad's works in semi-abstract style attempts to depict the complexities of contemporary reality. The style combining monochrome surfaces and line drawings in these works have won him Kerala Lalit Kala Akademi Award.
Fifty paintings in variety of styles are up for sale in the art gallery located in South Mumbai and Chalad, whose artistic career spans over four decades, hopes people take ote of it.

"It takes me anywhere between one week to a month to finish a painting. I want more and more people to come and see them first hand and buy it. The paintings are not only for display but for sale, which is an important thing too," he adds.
"Before Truce" and "Echoes from Bamiyan" are among his works that portray the global ramifications of fascism. The series titled "Magic Pot and Lovers", "Father's Hamlet", and the "Unending Destinations" are among his masterpieces.
The exhibition will be held till April 10.
