Harmonium exponent Pandit Tulsidas Borkar dead

Renowned harmonium player Pandit Tulsidas Borkar passed away Saturday at a hospital in Mumbai.

He was 84.

He was being treated for chest infection and died Saturday morning, a statement issued by Nanavati Super Speciality Hospital said.

Born in Goa, Borkar made a name for himself as an accomplished harmonium player, and was conferred with the Padma Shri award in 2016.

He was also a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.

Borkar was known for both solo performances as well as his unique style of accompanying Indian classical singers.

Among others, he had accompanied legendary singers such as Ustad Amir Khan, Bhimsen Joshi and Kishori Amonkar.
