Harsh Vardhan tries to woo medical fraternity

Terming himself as a "reluctant politician", BJP's chief ministerial candidate for Delhi Harsh Vardhan today tried to woo the medical fraternity and said it was because of doctors that he could win his first elections in 1993.
Making an appeal to around 300-350 doctors, chemists and medical students gathered at the residence of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley, he said in 1993, when his party asked him to contest elections, he was initially "reluctant".
"I entered the fray at the last moment. It's because of the support of the doctors that I could win elections," he said.

Trying to strike an emotional chord, he added, "During the pulse campaign, everyone worked, but doctors had a major contribution to eradicate polio from Delhi. People said polio cannot be eradicated, but the way you did it, we can also finish corruption."
He also asked the doctors to form teams in all the 70 assembly seats of Delhi and start campaigning.
"Doctors have a different bond with their patients. If you (the doctors) can take our message in all the 70 seats, then we will certainly win in all the seats," he said.

"We have seen the work carried out by Dr Harsh Vardhan and we are proud of it that someone from our field has been projected as the chief ministerial candidate," said Dr Anil Goyal, president-elect of the Delhi Medical Association.

Jaitley, who also appealed the medicos to be a "political messenger", attacked the Sheila Dikshit government for irregularities brought out by the Lokayukta and rising prices.
With the recent sting operation against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidates by a web portal, the senior BJP leader took a dig at the party and said, the party's name should be "Rent A Cause" Party and that it won't pose as threat in the Delhi assembly elections.
