B Harshath registered a clinical 18-stroke victory in the first National final of the Tata Steel IGU Sub-Junior Feeder Tour that concluded at the Tollygunj Club here today.
The lad from Neyveli in Tamil Nadu closed in with a final round 77 for a four round total of 307 to emerge victorious.
Pramod Singh finished second at 325 while Sohum Vij was third at 329. Daksh Shokeen and Shabeg Singh Kooner were tied for the fourth spot at 330 while Ribhav Kumar finished sixth at 333. Zahed Khan was the best from the Eastern Zone when he finished with a total of 335 for a seventh place finish.
Kshitij Kaul brought in the first under-par card of 66 in the final round to clinch the Category C title with a 54-hole total of 4-over 214. Devansh Chadha and Sandeep Yadav were tied for the second place with a total of 228. Aadil Bedi ended up third at 232 while Sunhit Kumar Bishnoi was fourth at 236. Manav Bais was fifth at 238.
Shubham Jaglan emerged as the best player in Boys D Category with a two-day total of 164 with Krishang Nayak finishing second at 180. Mandaar Prashar was third at 181. Vasundhara Thiara won in Category D for Girls with a 36-hole total of 172.
With the title almost in his grasp and the fight being reduced to the runner-up spot, Harshath, armed with a 10-shot lead , began with back to back bogeys before making his sole birdie of the day on the third. Three bogeys on the last three holes of his front nine dented his score. On the back nine, Harshath put up a slightly better performance. However, three bogeys on the 13th, 16th and 18th set him back but nevertheless won easily.
"I am thrilled to win here," said the champion. "Although I had a sizeable lead, I did not take it easy. I just wanted to make pars but occasionally ended up with a bogey," said Harshath.
