Jazz pioneer Wynton Marsalis will discuss "Blood on the Fields" today. His oratorio of one couple's journey from slavery to freedom was the first jazz composition to win the Pulitzer.
On Sunday, a daylong program will feature conversation and performances highlighting the work of those who give voices to the powerless and hold the powerful accountable.
Participants will include author Robert Caro, playwright Lynn Nottage and Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward. The finale will be a performance of John Adams' "On the Transmigration of Souls," to mark the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
