Haryana: 2 Gujarat GRP personnel injured in attack, 400 booked

Two GRP personnel were injured as they were attacked by a large mob when they had gone to a village to arrest a wanted person, following which a case has been registered against at least 400 people.
Based on a compliant made by K D Rathor, Police Inspector of GRP Station, Baroda (Gujarat), as many as 400 people have been booked under relevant sections of the IPC. But no arrest has been made so far, police officials said.
A 10-member GRP team from Gujarat had yesterday gone to Sirokhi village to arrest Surender wanted in a number of cases of theft and looting. Two vehicles carrying the GRP personnel were waylaid by supporters and relatives of the accused.
The attackers tore off the policemen's uniform, broke the window panes of the vehicles and got Surender freed from their custody. They also snatched the service revolver of Head Constable Vijay Kumar, shot at and injured him, police said.
On receiving information about the incident, Haryana Highway Patrol Police rushed to the village and rescused the GRP personnel.
The injured GRP personnel - Mehul Kumar and Vijay - have been admitted to Hansi Civil Hospital, police said, adding a probe is on in the matter.
