About 25.20 lakh children below five years of age were administered polio drops today in Haryana as the second national immunisation round of Pulse Polio 2013 began in all districts of the state.
40 lakh children would be covered during the three-day campaign in the state, an official spokesman said.
63 per cent of the targeted children were covered on the first day of the campaign, he said adding, a total of 16,669 booths, manned by about 66,000 health officials, were set up in the state.
ARREST

Rewari (Har): Police arrested a youth, who had allegedly eloped with a 17-year-old girl, from Berli Kalan village, 18 kms from here, on February 21.
Sonu, 21, was produced before the Duty Magistrate at Kosli, who remanded him in 14-day judicial custody.

MISSION

Chandigarh: The Haryana government has planned to set up a state livestock mission to double the milk production by 2020.
Haryana has made significant improvement in milk production, a spokesman said adding, to further realise the potential by accelerated genetic improvement of livestock, the government has planned to increase the coverage of artificial insemination from 63 per cent to 90 per cent in the next five years.

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal stressed upon the need to develop the national character through inculcating the spirit of "nationalism and patriotism" amongst the youth.
"The state government had embarked upon an ambitious programme to set up Jang-e-Azaadi Memorial at Kartarpur near Jalandhar over an area of 40 acres at a cost of Rs 200 crore to show case the supreme sacrifices made by the Punjabis in the national freedom struggle," Badal said after laying the foundation stone of an auditorium here.
