Haryana government today asked the Centre to set up a Fire and Industrial Safety Management institute, saying at a time when a number of industrial units were operating from the state, it lacks such a facility which will help impart training to employees and students of northern states.
In a letter to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij said a number of world famous industrial units were located in Haryana and its neighbouring states, which warrants the establishment of a fire management institute there.
Industrial units like of Maruti, Escort, Hero, Eicher, Honda, and Atlas have a strong manufacturing base in Haryana. Besides, such industries are also operational in some neighboring states, he said.
A trained manpower in Fire and Industrial Safety Management discipline is required for these units, he said.
"But there is no such institute functional in Haryana or in neighbouring states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Chandigarh where employees and fresh students could get training facilities," he said.
Employees and students of these states have to go to Nagpur in Maharashtra for this course which results in heavy expenditure and loss of time, he said.

Therefore, there was a need to open a Fire and Industrial Safety Management Institute in Ambala Cantt, he argued.
"This would help impart training to employees and students of northern states in relevant field," he said.
"The Centre will prove beneficial for employees as well as students from the country's northern states," Vij added.
