Haryana farmers advised to protect crops from pests

Farmers in Haryana have been advised to regularly check crops such as cotton, paddy, guar and bean to prevent any damage from pests in the wake of cloudy and humid weather conditions.
"Due to cloudy and humid weather, whitefly and other sucking pests may infest in American and desi cotton crops, if the insect population is above economical threshold level they spray the recommended insecticide when weather is clear," said an advisory issued by Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar.
In case of guar and cluster bean, farmers were advised to monitor crop constantly for attack of bacterial leaf blight, and then spray the recommended insecticide or pesticides when weather is clear, scientists said.
Farmers are advised to monitor infestation of leafhopper in rice/paddy standing crops. They are advised to use recommended fertilisers and irrigation as per requirement for sugarcane crop.
There is a possibility of partly cloudy weather from September 6-9 and light rain or thundershowers at many places on September 6 and 7, the advisory said.
A spokesman of the university said that the maximum temperature is likely to be between 30 and 33 degree Celsius and minimum between 22 and 26 degree Celsius. The average wind speed would range from 4 to 10 kilometre per hour.
