In the wake of allegations levelled by Rewari gang rape victim's family that police failed to take prompt action initially, Haryana DGP B S Sandhu Monday directed the police officers to adopt prompt registration and "quick action" strategy to deal with criminals, especially those involved in crime against women.
Sandhu gave the directions during a video-conference with all range ADGPs/IGs, commissioners of police, and district SPs to review law and order situation at police headquarters in Panchkula.
He directed that "free registration and quick action" strategy should be adopted to deal with criminals, especially those involved in crime against women.
Giving clear instructions, the DGP said that complaints pertaining to crime against women should be registered promptly without any delay.
"Any lapse in this regard will be viewed seriously and officer/official concerned would be held responsible for any kind of negligence," he said.
"You should either perform better or face the music," warned the DGP, as per an official release.

Sandhu told the officers that Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is concerned about safety and security of women in the state.
"A number of initiatives have been taken by the government in this direction. The specific aim of police officers should be to take instant and firm action as soon as the complaint is received.
"Apart from this, every officer should also keep a close vigil to ensure that no untoward incident takes place in their respective areas," the DGP said in the meeting.
The 19-year-old gang rape victim's family has alleged that police failed to take prompt action on their complaint.
The family had alleged that police delayed action by citing jurisdiction issue between police units of Rewari and Mahendragarh districts.
Cracking the whip, the state government had on Sunday transferred Rewari SP Rajesh Duggal. Rahul Sharma took charge as the new SP of Rewari in his place.
The 19-year-old woman, a school topper hailing from Rewari who was felicitated by the government, was abducted from a bus stop in Kanina town in neighbouring Mahendragarh district on Wednesday while she was on way to a coaching class, police had said.
She was allegedly drugged and gang-raped at a room adjoining a tubewell in an agricultural field, police said.
Meanwhile, speaking at the conference, DG Headquarters, K K Mishra said the government has been taking serious initiatives to curb crime against women and children.
Mishra said a thorough enquiry is being conducted into the gang rape case to find out any kind of negligence on the part of any police official.
In case of any negligence, appropriate action would be taken against the erring officers, he said.
Mishra asked the district SPs to be more pro-active and sensitive, telling them crime should be curbed in all circumstances.
He also emphasized on the need for a specific approach for faster investigation of crimes, especially under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Such cases should be monitored on day to day basis by the officers concerned, he said.
He also stressed on expeditious trial and conviction of such heinous crimes.
The video-conference was attended by other officers including ADGP (Crime) P K Agrawal, ADGP CID, Anil Kumar Rao and SP Crime Against Woman, Manisha Choudhary.
