Haryana government announces award for sanitation

Haryana government has announced a scheme under which awards would be given to Gram Panchayats and wards of Urban Local bodies every month for maintaining sanitation and cleanliness.
The 'Swaran Jayanti Award for Sanitation' scheme was announced by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
Awards for the month of July will be given to best Gram Panchayats and Wards at a function scheduled on the eve of Independence Day, an official release quoting Development and Panchayats Minister O P Dhankar said.
Dhankar said the scheme would not only encourage people to keep their villages and towns clean but would also create a healthy competition among them.
The award would carry Rs one lakh for each Gram Panchayat and Rs 50,000 for Ward of Municipal Committee, Rs one lakh for ward of Municipal Council and Rs two lakh for ward of Municipal Corporation.
A monthly competition would also be held for overall cleanliness of public toilets and a cash award of Rs 10,000 would be given for the most clean public toilet at the district level.
