In a bid to increase green cover in Haryana, a special campaign would be launched for plantation of 25 lakh saplings in the state, Forest Minister Rao Narbir Singh said today.

To ensure public participation in this campaign, students of government schools would be given Rs 50 every six months for three years for plantation and care of the plants, he said at a workshop organised in Bhondsi village here.

The workshop was organized by a Germany-based organisation GIZ, in collaboration with the Ministry of Forests, Environment and Climate Change, Government of India, at Bhondsi Nature Camp in Gurgaon.

NGOs and forest officials from different districts of the state participated in the workshop and discussed about the plans for environmental conservation and ways to prevent climate change, according to an official statement released here.

Expressing his concern over the consequences of climate change, Singh said the state government has introduced several new schemes, including 'Har Ghar Hariyali' and 'Har Ghar Paidon Ki Chhaaon', to increase green cover in Haryana.
