Haryana govt approves policy for financing MRTS

Haryana government today approved a policy for financing Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) projects, including several Delhi Metro corridors, which encourage people to use public transport.
Transit Oriented Development (TOD) will be allowed only on designated Metro corridors to provide opportunities for city restructuring and optimum utilisation of the land along these designated corridors, an official release said here.
The policy was approved at a meeting of the state Cabinet held here under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, it said.
A 500-metre-wide belt on both sides from the boundaries of the acquired right of way of the road, on which MRTS corridor is proposed to be provided, is being designated as TOD Zone, it said.
Presently, this policy will be applicable on MRTS corridors, including Delhi Metro extension along Gurgaon- Mehrauli Road upto Sector 29 (City Centre), Gurgaon, Metro Link from Badarpur (Delhi) to Ballabgarh, Faridabad district and metro link from Mundka (Delhi) to City Park, Bahadurgah.
The development plans within the TOD Zone shall be applicable on multi-storeyed group housing, integrated commercial complexes, office spaces, industrial townships and banquet halls/community buildings.
Among the uses which will not be permissible in the TOD Zone include car showrooms, automobile repair and servicing shops, LPG godowns, electric sub-station above 132KV, bus depots, cremation grounds, stand-alone multi-level parking other than the ones provided on metro stations, any trade or activity involving obnoxious, hazardous, inflammable, non-compatible and polluting substance.
However, option will be available to convert these uses into permissible uses, the release said.
