Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today directed officials to look into the state's toll-tax policies to provide relief to people.
Hooda has asked the officers to discontinue charging the increased rates at toll plazas in the state till the time the policy is framed for giving relaxation in the toll rates.
The Haryana government had received a number of requests, especially from people living in nearby areas of toll barriers for rationalisation of charges.
The Chief Minister was presiding over a meeting with officers of Public Works (Building and Roads) Department and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) here today to deliberate on the issue of providing relaxation in the toll rates, an official release said here.
Hooda said that at present, the rates at various toll plazas in the state are high and they need to be reduced to make these affordable for the people.
Addressing the meet, he said besides relaxing the rates for all the people passing through it, further relaxation in the toll rates would be given to those residing in the nearby areas of toll plazas.
Hooda said the state government is ready to bear the burden and will accordingly compensate NHAI for relaxing the toll rates.
For this, he has asked the officials of NHAI to calculate their financial loss and submit a detailed report to the state government by the next week.
