Keeping in view the growing number of vehicles plying in the state, Haryana government has formulated a draft parking policy for smooth vehicular movement.
Suggestions have been invited from common people by September 30 for finalisation of the policy, an official spokesman said today.
Municipalities sanction building plans according to provisions of the Haryana Municipal Building Bye-Laws, 1982, but there are no specific provisions regarding parking facilities at these buildings, he said.
While notifying the policy regarding construction of shopping malls and multiplexes and the policy for conversion of residential buildings and vacant plots into commercial use, minimum parking requirement of one Equivalent Car Space (ECS) per 75 square meters of covered area was prescribed, he said.
Also, while approving the zoning plans for institutional buildings, a provision to reserve 10 per cent of the plot area for parking is specified by the Directorate of Urban local Bodies, Haryana, the spokesman said.
It has been observed, the minimum requirement of parking space is insufficient keeping in view the growing number of vehicles plying in municipal areas of the state and at present, there is no specific policy for parking, he said, adding that due to vehicular growth and consequent congestion, the need to frame a proper parking policy and norms to keep roads free from obstacles has been felt.
