Haryana plans to have a state- of-the-art Science City built on the lines of Kolkata's famed science complex.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar met Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma today to discuss the proposal, which is slated to be developed at a cost of Rs 191 crore by the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) under the Ministry of Culture.
Khattar, accompanied by a team, suggested two sites - Sonepat and Gurugram -- be studied for the project. The areas have enough land for the development of a sprawling Science City, he said.
Sharma assured Khattar of an in-principle approval for the proposal and said an NCSM team would soon visit the suggested sites to assess the feasibility of the project.
The minister set a deadline of October 31, 2018, for the completion of the project, which is also the deadline for all projects of the culture and tourism ministries.
The proposed Science City will boast of thematic galleries, a fun-filled science gallery and a high voltage sports theatre, among other attractions.
Kolkata's Science City -- built on 49.6 acres of land -- was set up in 1997 under the NCSM.
