The new proposal, which will revolutionize the way agricultural land is acquired for development, is under active consideration of the state government, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda told PTI.

The plan is to provide farmers a share in the developed plots equivalent to one-third of the acquired area, he said.

"We are in the process of devising a new land acquisition policy which will, for the first time, make farmers direct partners in the land development process," Hooda said.

He said the idea was to take the farmers along and assure them that they would not be deprived of their rightful claim over the acquired land.

Top sources in the state government said that the new land acquisition policy envisaged giving plots to farmers in urbanized colonies developed by the state agencies instead of simply offering compensation for the acquired land.

All new colonies developed by the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) are proposed to have earmarked plots for farmers whose land has been acquired, said a top Haryana government official.

He said the area of these plots would be proportionate to the quantum of land acquired from farmers.

Top sources said that the state government proposes to give one third of the acquired land in the form of developed plots to farmers in urbanized colonies of HUDA.

Haryana put its fresh land acquisition process on the hold last year in view of the proposed new land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation law at the Centre. It is however planning to bring its own revised policy soon.
