Haryana govt to spend Rs 12 cr for upgrading sports infra

The Haryana Government will spend a sum of Rs 12 crore for upgrading sports infrastructure in the state under new 'Sports Policy' during the current financial year.
Principal Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs Department Haryana, Amit Jha announced this while addressing the players during opening ceremony of three-day state level Women Championship Group-1 at Karna Stadium here.
He also announced to set up a nursery or academy of a sport at Karnal.
The district administration would have to submit a proposal in this regard to the Sports and Youth Affairs Department and the approval will be accorded immediately for the same, he added.
He said that the state government is committed to promote sports in a big way and added that 750 new coaches would be recruited this year.
The services of these coaches would be taken from National Sports Institute, Patiala and process had already been started.

After their recruitment, adequate coaches would be available for training of youth at village and district level stadia, he said.
Apart from police department, Jha said that the outstanding players would get jobs as per criteria in education, sports and panchayat departments too.
So far, 12 players have been identified for providing jobs in these departments.
He said that under Sports Potential Aptitude Training (SPAT) programme, 5000 students have been selected for giving scholarship ranging from Rs 1500 to Rs 2000 in the state.
He said that under Panchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA), Haryana players had won four gold, four silver and one bronze medal in National Woman Sports Championship in year 2011-12 whereas state women players had brought glory at national level by winning 11 gold, three silver and one bronze medal in the championship in year 2012-13.
