Haryana imposes stock holding limit on onions, potatoes

Haryana government today imposed stock holding limit on onions and potatoes to check hoarding and black marketing of the commodities.
Haryana Food and Supplies Minister Karan Dev Kamboj said the wholesalers would now be allowed to stock up to 60 quintals of onions and 80 quintals of potatoes.
He added, those found stocking more than the prescribed limit would invite stern action.
Kamboj said directions to this effect have been issued to the concerned officers of the department.
Complaints were received about some wholesalers that they were stocking more than the prescribed quantity and sell the commodities at higher prices.
To control the prices of onions, 1,000 quintal are being purchased from National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) which would be sold at a rate of Rs 35 per kg by Hafed and through Vita booths.
