"Following the allegations of sexual abuse and torture of women and children at Rohtak's Apna Ghar shelter home, the police is keeping a strict vigil on all the NGOs running such homes in the state," DGP Ranjiv Dalal said here today.
The DGP said there is a need to bring changes in the rules governing these organisations to make them accountable to the Government.
"There is an urgent need to change rules and regulations governing institutions like Apna Ghar in Rohtak...Such institutions should be made accountable to the government and answerable to people," the DGP told media on the sidelines of a function here.
He said thorough investigations are on in the Rohtak shelter home incident and the guilty would be severely dealt with.
Dalal said if any police personnel was found involved anywhere in this case, he will face strict action.
Apna Ghar shelter home, which was run by NGO Bharat Vikas Sangh, landed into a controversy when a team of National Commission for Protection of Child Right rescued over 100 children and women, who were allegedly sexually abused, from the house after carrying out a surprise raid on May 9.

During the raid, it was found that the women and children at the shelter home were allegedly sexually assaulted and tortured.
Dalal had on Wednesday constituted a Special Investigation Team to inquire into the entire episode in which involvement of several state policemen has been alleged.
