In a major relief to milk producers, the Haryana government has halved cess on milk to 5 paise per litre from 10 paise per litre, according to an official release.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has accorded approval to reduce the cess amount to 5 paise per litre, the release said Friday.
"The decision was taken in view of the long-pending demand of the milk producers," Animal Husbandry and Dairying Minister O P Dhankar said.
These reduced rates would be effective from February 4, 2016, he said.
"All those who have deposited the cess at the rate of 10 paise per litre, their cess amount would be calculated as per the decreased amount (at the rate of 5 paisa per litre) and the difference would be adjusted against future accruals," Dhankar said.
He said that this has been approved as per the provisions under Haryana Murrah Buffalo and other Milch Animal Breed (Preservation and Development of Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Sector) Act, 2001.
Dhankar said his department has also issued the notification accordingly.
