Haryana signs MoU with Art of Living's institute for yoga

The Haryana government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a training institute of the Art of Living Foundation today to help jail inmates to maintain and improve their health and reduce physical and mental stress.
"The state government signed the MoU with Vyakti Vikas Kendra India...in the presence of Chief Minister Manohar Lal and founder of the Art of Living Foundation Sri Sri Ravi Shankar," according to an official statement here.
Director General (Prisons) K P Singh signed the MoU on behalf of the state government.
R K Sapra, apex member of Vyakti Vikas Kendra India (VVKI), Haryana, signed the agreement on behalf of the institute.
K P Singh said that as per the MoU, yoga, meditation and other programmes would be conducted with the help of VVKI for the welfare of prisoners on regular basis in all the prisons of the state.
No fee would be charged for conducting these programmes, he added.

According to him, it has been observed that prisoners who are under-trial or are convicted remain in great physical and mental stress due to various reasons.
The situation results in mental depression and diseases as well. To alleviate this situation, yoga, meditation and other therapies are extremely helpful, he said.
He said that VVKI conduct various courses of the Art of Living Foundation and has been conducting 'PRISON SMART' (Stress Management and Rehabilitation Training) courses for prisoners successfully all over the world.
