The Special Task Force (STF) of Haryana police has arrested 13 wanted criminals and seized huge quantity of illicit arms as well as narcotics during the past six months, police officials said today.
The Haryana police is planning to strengthen STF by inducting 100 highly-qualified people to tackle cyber crime, Director General of Police (DGP) B S Sandhu said.
"The STF has arrested 13 wanted criminals and seized huge quantity of illicit arms as well as narcotics," he said in an official statement issued here.
Giving details about the seizure of illicit arms and narcotics, Additional Director General of Police (crime) P K Agarwal said STF sleuths have recovered 50 country-made pistols, one revolver, one rifle and four pistols.
Apart from this, it had also seized 57 kg of poppy straw, 22 kg of cannabis, 1.5 kg of opium, 4.138 kg of brown sugar and 53.50 gram of heroin, Agarwal said.
The sleuths had killed dreaded gangster Balraj Bhatti in an encounter in Noida. He was a member of the Sunder Bhatti gang and carried a cash reward of Rs 2.5 lakh on his head, he said.
In addition, STF had recently arrested wanted criminal Sampat Nehra, a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, from Hyderabad. He carried a cash reward of Rs 2 lakh on his head, Agarwal added.
