Haryana would become kerosene-free from April 1 next year, while eight of the state's 21 districts will get the status on November 1 this year, an official spokesperson said today.
With an aim to provide smoke-free healthy environment while cooking, the state government has decided to provide free of cost gas connections under the Centre's Ujjawala scheme. The cost, Rs 1,600 for each connection, would be borne by the state, he said.
BPL families in Ambala, Gurgaon, Jhajjar, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Panipat, Panchkula and Yamunanagar districts would get free gas connection by October 31. Supply of kerosene oil under PDS in these eight districts would be stopped on November 1, the spokesperson said.
The remaining 13 districts would be made kerosene-free from April 1 next year. BPL families in these districts would get free gas connections from their nearest LPG dealers by March 31, he said.
