An official spokesperson of Department of Town and Country Planning,nodal agency for ensuringregulated urban development of the state, said the decision willencouragethe people toobtain CLU permission and help reduce unauthorised construction that comes up without CLU.
Thedepartment grants CLU permission forresidential/ industrial/ commercial/institutional/ farm house/ recreational useunder the Punjab Scheduled Roads and Controlled Areas Restriction ofUnregulated Development Act, 1963 and its rules, 1965. The Act lays down thatCLUpermission is to be grantedwithin 60 daysin case of industries and 90 days inother cases.
At present one-fourth area of the state has been declared as controlled area.The CLUpermission is required before executing any project in thecontrolled area. The policies of thedepartment aim at encouraging a healthy competition among various privatedevelopers and public sector entities for integrated planned urban development, the spokesman said.
