Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has given approval for the launch of a scheme to identify and take appropriate measures in expeditiously disposing heinous crimes, an official spokesperson said today.
Under the Identified Crime Scheme, state and district-level committees will be constituted, which will be headed by the additional chief secretary and deputy commissioners respectively, the spokesperson said.
"The Haryana government is making strenuous efforts to rein in heinous and sensational crimes like dacoity, murder, terrorist activities, rape, gang rape, rape of small girls, kidnapping etc," he said.
The district-level committees will meet on the first Tuesday of every month, identify heinous and sensational crimes during the month, if any, and submit recommendations to the state-level committee, which would decide on its inclusion in 'Identified Crimes', the official said.
The state-level committee would review the progress made in various cases and take corrective measures in clearing the bottlenecks in investigation or trial. It would also review the number of cases reported from different districts, he said.
If the number of the cases reported by any district is insufficient or there is a crime which qualifies to be covered under the scheme, but the authorities have failed to report, then the committee would take up with that district, the spokesperson said. The committee will also meet on the third Tuesday of every month and bring the latest progress report on the cases for review and necessary action.
The spokesperson said heinous and sensational crimes created a deep impact on the psyche of the society and, therefore, required close monitoring to get justice delivered. Crime control is an extremely important aspect of good governance and brings a sense of security among the citizens, he added
