Haryana to provide 1 kg sugar at Rs 13 to BPL families

The Haryana government today said it will provide one kg sugar every month at the rate of Rs 13 to all 11.31 lakh Below Poverty Line (BPL) families in the state, including Antyodaya Anna Yojana(AAY) households.
Each of these families would also be provided one litre mustard oil of Hafed, the largest apex cooperative federation of the state, at the rate of Rs 20 every month, beginning January 2018.
The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar here today, an official release said.
Minister of State for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Karan Dev Kamboj and Chairman, Hafed, Harvinder Kalyan also attended the meeting.
At present, one kilogram sugar is being provided to about 2.63 lakh AAY families in the state. With today's decision, 8.68 lakh BPL families would also be covered, it said.
The beneficiary families would get sugar and mustard oil at the rate of Rs 13 per kg and Rs 20 per litre, respectively.
It was also decided at the meeting that fortified wheat flour enriched with essential vitamins and mineralswould be provided in two blocks -- Brara and Naraingarh -- of district Ambala in the first phase under the Public Distribution System, mid-day meal scheme and theIntegrated Child Development Scheme(ICDS) through Hafed.
It was also decided that a regulation would be brought to ensure that only packed fortified mustard oil is sold in the market.
