Union Ministry of External Affairs has honoured Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) Yash Pal Singal with a 'Certificate of Recognition' for rendering "outstanding service" to curtail delay in sending police verification for issuance of passports.
Besides, Haryana police have been adjudged as one of the three best states or UTs on passport applications' verification data for the financial year 2014-15, an official spokesman said here today.
The honour was conferred upon him by Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj recently, he said.
For the implementation of Online Passport Sewa Project in the state, the officers of Haryana Police and CID have made strenuous efforts to speed up sending of Police Verification Reports (PVRs) to Regional Passport Offices of Delhi and Chandigarh, he said.
"Singal has made concerted efforts for the implementation of the project," he said.
The pendency of PVRs for issuance of passports in various districts was for more than 21 days, which has now been brought down from 30 per cent to 10 per cent since the launch of the project in May 2010, he added.
Earlier, this process used to take about two to three months.
