Unveiling the policy here, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the initiative will mobilise energy of the large number of youths for economic growth and holistic development of the state and will enable their physical, psychological, intellectual, social and economic well-being.

"We have studied the demographic characteristics of the youth of Haryana. Therefore, we have defined youth as people in the age group of 13 to 35 years", Hooda said.

The Policy reflects the government and society's commitment to its youth, identifies their needs and provide a basis for equitable and concerted distribution of government resources to meet their needs, Hooda said, adding that the state government will observe 2012 as the "Year of the Youth".

"Through this policy, the state looks for greater involvement of youth in solving social and community issues like health and nutrition, education and employment opportunities, child and maternal care, female infanticide, social justice and substance abuse with a special emphasis to empower women and girl child across all initiatives", he said.

Stressing for collaborative efforts by various stakeholders for effective implementation of the policy, Hooda said a coordinating committee may also be formed for the purpose.

The policy will be audited in 2017 and may be reviewed and updated subsequently based on the third party audit report. (MORE)
