Even as domestic and international voices continue to oppose Sheikh Hasina government's plan to restructure the Grameen Bank in Banglaesh her Foreign Minsiter Dipu Moni today made it clear that they were determined to have it "cleaned".
She said the bank was a statutory body and it is to be regulated by the central bank and the government.
"When our democratically elected government was asked questions by the media, the international community, on certain reports... We had to take some action against," Moni said at an event here.
"There was much undue criticism for us but we go by law. We are determined to have it probed and cleaned," she said.
She said her government was taking numerous steps for poverty alleviation.
"We will go on with our initiatives," she said.
The Hasina government has come under fire at home and abroad for allegedly targeting Grameen Bank and its Nobel Laureate founder Mohd Yunus in the name of restructuring the financial institution.
