Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi told Lok Sabha today that government is working on an 'e-migrate' project "which aims to transform the emigration into simple, transparent, orderly process".
He said a fully transparent mechanism would be put in place by 2013 under which Indian Missions and emigration authorities will be linked through an online portal for providing seamless services to those going abroad for jobs.
"It would result in significant improvement in the quality of services to emigrant workers since it would simplify different processes in the emigration cycle and improve effectiveness," he said, in reply to a question.
He said a "complete and comprehensive" electronic platform would be put in place linking all the stakeholders with minimum human intervention.
"This project would, to a great extend, help reduce corruption, malpractices and irregular migration and thereby facilitate legal and orderly migration," he said.
Ravi said the online portal will link various stakeholders including Protector of Emigrant offices, recruiting agents, employers, immigration counters, Indian missions abroad and insurance companies.

Replying to a separate question, Ravi said government provides legal and financial assistance to Indian women abroad who have been deserted by their NRI husbands.
"The assistance is for meeting the initial cost and incidental expenses for documentation and filing of cases," he said adding assistance of USD 3,000 is provided to such woman residing developed countries and USD 2000 is given in case of woman living in developing countries.
