Hawala racket cash seized after police raids courier service
Press Trust of India Akola A local police crime branch raided the office of Ashok Raj Angadia courier service in the old cloth market, in the heart of city and seized cash worth more than Rs 27.49 lakh which was meant for hawala racket transactions, official sources said here today.
The amount was seized along with currency counting machines as well as four cellular phones, sources said.
Soon after this raid, offices of other courier services downed shutter, even as the police team raided Indrapuri Services, but did not seize anything objectionable.
An investment office was also raided and cash worth Rs 18 lakh was seized, though it was returned to its owners after proofs were submitted to the police.
Detailed investigation of a person arrested during the raid would begin only after permission from Income Tax department is received, crime branch sources said.
