A local court here acquitted Jagtar Singh Hawara in a 1995 arms recovery case, an official said today.
The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Suresh Goyal acquitted Hawara, who had been convicted for conspiring to assassinate former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh, he said.
On April 3, Judicial Magistrate First Class Varinder Kumar had convicted him in the arms act case and had referred the case to the court of CJM for quantum of sentence.
After hearing the arguments, the court of CJM acquitted Hawara in the case pertaining to the recovery of AK-56 rifle, said defence counsel Jaspal Singh Manjhpur.
Hawara is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in Delhi.
In 1995, an FIR was registered against Hawara after seizure of an AK-56 rifle.
