The National Green Tribunal (NGT) today sought the city government's response on a plea questioning setting up of a hazardous waste disposal unit allegedly without environment clearance in Mundka village in west Delhi.
A bench headed by Justice U D Salvi issued notice to the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), Delhi government, Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and other authorities as well as the company running the plant, and sought their responses by November 12.
The order came on the plea of one Balam Singh Rawat who alleged that prior environment clearance (EC) is required before setting up such a unit. However, no EC has been granted to the plant, he claimed.
Advocate S K Bhattacharya, appearing for Rawat, contended that the village falls in a non-conforming area as per Master Plan of Delhi and thus the unit cannot be set up there.
