The Bombay High Court today allowed Jaya Bhagat, serving life imprisonment in jail for killing her husband and 'matka' gambling king Suresh Bhagat, to undergo treatment in St George's hospital here for various ailments.
A bench of justices P V Hardas and Mridula Bhatkar was hearing a petition filed by 50-year-old Jaya, who urged for hospitalisation to undergo treatment for ulcers in stomach, obesity, depression and other ailments.
The court, while allowing Jaya to undergo treatment for three weeks in St George's hospital, posted her petition for further hearing after a month.
A medical officer, who was summoned by the court to inform on Jaya's condition, was present today. He filed a report stating that she needed hospitalisation for few weeks.
Jaya's lawyer Sirish Gupte urged that his client needed urgent treatment as earlier she had been operated upon for gastrectomy to prevent obesity.
In her petition, Jaya said after undergoing the operation, she was suffering from hypertension, hypothyroid, depression and vertigo.
