A bench comprising justices M Jaichandren and S Nagamuthu also ordered that the parents should not cause any harm to the 16-year-old girl, produced in the court by police in response to its February 24 order, and that she be given counselling by counselor or psychiatrist as and when required.
Passing interim orders on a habeas corpus petition filed by the girl's father, the court directed the District Child Welfare Committee officials to make periodical visits to her house in Thiruvannamalai to verify whether she was maintained properly and submit a report to the court.
Earlier, District Superintendent of Police appeared in the court and produced the girl, prompting the judges to remark that action had been taken only after it had directed the SP to be present in the court today.
"How you are able to secure the detenue who is a minor school-going girl immediately after summoning the SP. Already two months over and in case if anything has happened by this time who is responsible," the bench asked the investigating officer.
The petitioner in the HCP had submitted that 32-year-old Suresh, who was working as a driver for him, along with some others, had abducted his daughter on December 13 last when he and his wife were not present.
He had alleged that police while filing a 'girl missing' case on his complaint did not mention the name of Suresh and no action was taken to trace her.
