The Delhi High Court today asked the Delhi government to file action taken report on a plea alleging that over 180 students have been "unjustly" denied admission in government schools.

A bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar issued notice to the AAP government on a petition and a letter which sought direction to the Directorate of Education to forthwith grant admission to these students in classes as sought by them for the academic year 2018-19.

The court asked the government to examine the matter and file its action taken report and listed the matter for further hearing on July 9.

The plea filed by NGO Social Jurist, through advocate Ashok Agarwal, claimed that hundreds of students have been denied admission by Delhi government schools on flimsy grounds.

"Students were arbitrarily and unjustly denied admissions by Delhi government schools," it said.

Agarwal also placed a letter in the court written to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by All India Parents Association, saying "Right to Education is a fundamental right of every child under the Constitution of India and it is a constitutional duty of the state to ensure that every child is not only given admission in government school but he is also provided quality education.
