HC asks UP govt to reply to PIL seeking CBI probe into tenure
Press Trust of IndiaThe Allahabad High Court today asked Uttar Pradesh government to file its counter affidavit on a PIL seeking a CBI inquiry into alleged irregularities in examinations conducted by state Public Service Commission during the Chairmanship of Anil Yadav who was removed from the post earlier this as per directions of the court. A division bench, comprising Justice Dilip Gupta and Justice Mukhtar Ahmad, asked the state government to file its reply within two weeks on the PIL filed by former Punjab DGP Julio Ribeiro and 7 others associated with India Rejuvenation Initiative, an anti-corruption organization comprising retired and serving bureaucrats.
The petitioners have alleged that during the more than two-year-long tenure of Anil Yadav, candidates belonging to a particular caste were favoured in examinations conducted by UPPSC while those belonging to other communities were discriminated against.
Yadav, who was appointed to the post in April, 2013, had to be sacked following a High Court order dated October 14, 2015, whereby his appointment was declared "illegal" and "ultra vires of the Constitution".
Examinations conducted by UPPSC in the recent past have been mired in controversies with the latest instance being the leak of question papers for the Civil Services Preliminary on March 29.
