The Allahabad High Court today sought to know from the Uttar Pradesh government as to why a notification has not been issued for setting up of old age homes and special tribunals for the elderly despite an order several months ago.
A division bench comprising Justice Arun Tandon and Justice A K Mishra passed the order on a Public Interest Litigation filed by Juned Ajaz Ahmed, a resident of Moradabad.
The petitioner had moved the court pleading that despite a court order passed on January 10, the state government had not issued a notification for setting up old age homes and special tribunals for the elderly under the provisions of Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act.
The court asked the state government to file an affidavit explaining as to why the order has not been complied with and fixed October 30 as the next date of hearing.
