The Allahabad High Court directed the state government to consider review of policy for providing security to individuals either at state or personal expenses in the next cabinet meeting.
Justice Sunil Ambwani and Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhaya of the Lucknow bench of the High Court passed this order on a PIL filed by social activist, Nutan Thakur.
The petitioner sought a directive to quash two government orders (GOs) of 2008 and 2013, issued by the home department of Uttar Pradesh regarding extending security personnel to various categories of people.
The petitioner submitted that these GOs are arbitrary and violative of Article 14 (right to equality) of the Constitution.
The petitioner also prayed for issuing direction to the state government to draw a new policy for provision of security personnel on a case to case basis.
The court earlier called for details of the security provided to the persons by the government either at the expense of the state or at that of their own.
