The Orissa High Court today granted interim protection from arrest to a suspended police officer accused of being involved in illegal trade in Hanuman coins.
Justice Shatrughna Pujahari directed Balasore police not to arrest inspector Surendra Nayak till further orders and adjourned the hearing on his anticipatory bail application till the submission of the case diary.
Nayak was allegedly involved in a racket dealing with illegal trade in 'Hanuman coins' and was summoned by the Malkangiri district police.
Nayak was admitted to the Balasore district hospital from where he left against medical advice. Subsequently, the Balasore SP held back his pay and the state DGP placed him under suspension for unauthorised absence from duty.
