The Kerala High Court today censured the Vice-Chancellor and two other top officials of Mahatma Gandhi University for not complying with a single bench order to pay remuneration due to teachers appointed to self- financing centres run directly by the university.
A division bench headed by Chief Justice Navniti Prasad Singh, which had summoned the top officials of the University located at Kottayam, ordered them to stay in the court till the day's proceedings were over.
The bench initiated action on a plea seeking contempt of court proceedings against the officials including the Vice Chancellor and Registrar for not complying with a court order.
It had yesterday directed the Vice Chancellor, the Registrar and the Finance Officer to appear in person before the court today, if they had not fully complied with the directive of the single bench.
The single bench had ordered in 2010 to grant service benefits to teachers in the university-run self financing centres.
The university had filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the verdict but the plea was rejected.
