The Madras High Court today directed the Tamil Nadu Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) to issue appointment orders within four weeks to 18 candidates whose applications were rejected on the ground that they did not possess conventional under-graduate degree qualification.
Justice D Hariparanathaman passed the order on a batch of petitions filed by D Hasina Banu and 17 others, who had challenged the TRB decision to disqualify them on the ground that they did not possess the stipulated UG degree.
The 18 candidates are holding degrees equivalent to the conventional UG degree in English Literature, B.Sc; M.Sc Statistics and they have been certified by respective universities including the Government appointed Equivalence Committee and they cannot be disqualified, the Judge observed.
The candidates who have studied courses such as B.A English (Computer Application) which was certified equal to the English literature and Bsc., and Msc Statistics which is equal to mathematics as certified by the universities had applied for the teacher Posts in government schools.
The TRB, however, rejected their applications, which the aggrieved challenged.
