HC comes to the rescue of SI aspirants

The Madras High Court today allowed candidates, whose online applications for the post of Sub-Inspector of Police were rejected citing minor technical errors, to appear for the written examination to be held on May 23.
Passing the order on a batch of petitions, vacation court Judge Justice R Mahadevan ordered Tamil Nadu Uniform Service Recruitment Board (TNUSRB) to allow candidates who were denied hall tickets for some technical faults to write the exam.
TNUSRB in its February 8 last notification called for applications to fill more than 1,000 vacancies in the post of Sub-Inspector of Police in TN Police Sub-ordinate Service for 2015.

It was specifically stated that candidates can apply only by online and the written examination is slated for May 23.
On May 18, the candidates were instructed to download the call letters for the examination from TNUSRB's website.
However, a considerable number of applications were rejected by the board citing reasons such as lack of proof of age, educational qualification not properly visible or improperly uploaded. Aggrieved, more than 60 candidates moved the high court.

When the matter came up for hearing, Justice Mahadevan said "the candidates cannot be denied an opportunity for some minor technical faults, that too when no other mode of application is available."

The Board shall upload the call letters before 8 pm tomorrow and the candidates shall download the same and produce their original certificates in the examination centre well before the exam, the judge said.
However, the judge made it clear that the relief applied only to those candidates who have approached the court for remedy.
