HC confirms death sentence of man convicted for cop's murder

The Allahabad High Court has upheld the death sentence awarded to a man for the murder of a police inspector in broad day light in Farrukhabad district of Uttar Pradesh in November 2014.
A division bench comprising justices AK Tripathi and Justice AK Mishra dismissed the appeal filed by Pappu alias Chandra Kumar and confirmed the death penalty awarded by the sessions judge on March 30, 2015.
The stategovernment's advocate Akhilesh Singh had contended that the nature of crime committed by the accused fell in the category of "rarest of rare cases".
He argued that the inspector, Raj Kumar Singh, was shot dead when he had gone to arrest the accused in connection with a crime and the gun used by the latter was recovered.
The inspector was murdered on November 29, 2014 in Kotwali police station area of Farrukhabad and the accused was arrested on the spot by other police officials.
