The Kerala High Court today declined to grant interim bail to three doctors against whom cases were registered by police in connection with alleged uploading on the social media of the caesarean section of a woman who delivered triplets at a taluk hospital in Kannur district.
Rejecting their interim bail plea, Justice V K Mohan said the case has been posted to September 30 for hearing police.
"If interim bail is granted, that will send a bad message to society. If this is a situation, how can our sisters go to hospital for delivery?" the judge asked.
Earlier today, sources in the health minister's office said government had decided to suspend the doctors, found guilty in a departmental probe in connection with the incident.
The uploading on the social media recently had triggered a controversy after the woman filed a complaint with police.
The incident came to light after a regional TV channel aired the report on the circulation of the "delivery scene" in a social media, following which police registered a case under cyber crime provisions against hospital authorities.
The woman said in the complaint that delivery scenes were shot without her knowledge and shared on internet breaching her privacy.
Various organisations had registered protests over the incident and demanded action against the doctors.
