Vacation Judge, Justice K Kalyanasundaram, before whom the petition filed by one Paneer Selvi of a village in Salem came up, declined to grant any interim injunction on release of the movie, scheduled for January one, and adjourned the matter for further hearing to January 4 after the special government pleader sought time to get instructions from the authorities on the issue.
The court declined to grant interim relief on the plea seeking a direction to file a report of the State Home Secretary and the Regional Censor Board of Film Certification with regard to issue of 'U' certificate to the film.
The petitioner alleged that the director of the film, produced by Sivaprakash in various languages including Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi, degraded Tamils, specifically women, and depicted that Karnataka police alone had taken all steps to curb the menace of the sandalwood smuggler, who was killed in 2004 in a joint operation by the two states.
The petitioner further submitted that the movie falsely depicted the wife of Veerappan as having killed several persons.
