The Madrs High Court today directed the government to fill the vacancy of the Chairperson of Tamil Nadu State Commission for Child Protection of Child Rights urgently, which has expired on January 17.
The first Bench Comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice M M Sundresh also directed authorities to place before it the position of implementation and non-implementation of certain things which were sought for by the petitioner E Ranganayaki, an advocate.
Ranganayaki sought a direction from the court to the Central and State Government authorities that every school and institution have trained and professional full time counselors experienced in Child Psychology.
While stating that child sexual abuse can be prevented only when the communities, institutions and government come together for preventing child abuse.
Stating that the child sexual abuse is an abuse of trust, power and authority that can have serious short and long term problems, he petitioner said many of these children have never told anyone about what happened to them, often as a result of threats and manipulation of perpetrators along with social stigma and because of this several cases were not reported.
The bench directed the concerned authorities of the State and Central Governments to ensure implementation of those directions sought for by the petitioner which are practicable and if there is any impediment to any of these should be brought to the notice of the court and posted the matter for further hearing to April 5.
