Justice Debangshu Basak, hearing a petition by the BJP's West Bengal unit claiming discrimination by the police authorities against it in giving permission, directed the party to apply to the Fire Brigade and KMC by today.
Justice Basak directed the Fire Service Department and KMC to inform the BJP by November 27 whether permission was granted or not with proper reasons.
If the permission is granted, the saffron party would then have to apply to the Kolkata Police (KP) for necessary permission to hold the public meeting.
The BJP had earlier moved the high court claiming refusal of permission by Kolkata Police, following which it had directed the police commissioner to sit with the state BJP leadership and inform the court about the outcome.
The commissioner had told the court that the BJP had not followed prescribed norm of taking fire service and KMC permission before seeking its nod.
